We're the Queenstown-Lakes branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association (NZDA) — a volunteer-run hunting club, formed in 1970, with members from Queenstown, Cromwell, Glenorchy, Arrowtown, Kingston, Cardrona, Te Anau, Southland and beyond.

Nationally, NZDA is the voice of New Zealand's hunters. Locally, we are your hunting club.

What we do

  • Look after two back-country huts on the Greenstone–Caples, open to anyone to book.

  • Run a Firearms Safety Authority certified rifle range at Fairlight, with NZ Wild Ltd as operator.

  • Deliver the HUNTS hunter-training course once a year — the national programme, run by local instructors.

  • Operate one of the first biodiversity trap lines in the Wakatipu basin, going since 2008.

  • Donate wild meat through Kiwi Harvest to families across the district.

  • Hold a club night the last Thursday of every month.

Where we meet

Arrowtown Bowling Club, 6 Hertford Street, Arrowtown (next to the Arrowtown Fire Station). Last Thursday of every month except December. Bar opens 6.30 pm, meeting starts 7.30 pm, usually a guest speaker, done around 9.45 pm. Prospective members welcome — come along, no need to book.
